Just got back from this show-
GE and Jorma sat next to each other, with no other musicians and took turns playing songs. All acoustic with no instrument changes, they played the entire show with the guitars they started with.
They both looked good and very relaxed and they both told funny stories, GE told about living in a small town where the only other guitar players lived under a bridge and melted white Kiwi shoe polish (the type nurses use- if nurses use it, it must be good), and strained it through a slice of white bread before drinking it.
GE was drinking water- no Howling Monkey tonight.
Jorma told how his wife had threatened him if he brought home another hotel bar of soap.
I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was 2 old friends playing the blues. I'm not a major Hot Tuna fiend but I recognized every song Jorma played. GE played songs the audience loved, especially Plastic Dashboard Jesus. He did 2 songs that he did with Moonalice, Eyesight to the Blind and Buffalo Skinners.
The crowd was mostly my age, but better groomed. Not sold out, but respectable. No real dance floor. The ride over and back was scary/rainy on that mountain highway (and I was in the truck).
I saw Barbette there and spent about 10 minutes talking with her during intermission. Looking forward to Saturday night in Berkeley.
