I'm out of this competition, the same girlfriend who metaphorically fell off my bike bought me a ticket to this show, and they're expensive, so thanks to the band for offering tickets to a deserving fan.
I saw the band 3 times 2 weeks ago, twice this weekend and will see them twice each of the next 2 weeks. That's 9 shows in 38 days. Earl has been great about making sure I always get an extra poster to trade, so if you have an extra and want to trade for a poster from a northern California show, my email is in my profile.
Some brief observations from the Fresno and Bakersfield shows-
Hi to Mendo Mama-
Taylor Barton opened both shows with a 30 minute set from her new cd- GE played acoustic backing her. We like her- we've been listening to her cd all weekend. From reading some advance press I thought she was going to be down-beat, but both Les and I like her new cd.
Chubby had a couple of funny lines in Bakersfield- intro-ing a song that John Molo requested, he asked "What were the drummers last words?" A: "Hey, play one of my songs." At another point he remarked that they were..."so far off the set list we're somewhere in Arizona."
I left after Moonalice and didn't see Marshall Tucker in Fresno, but the crowd responded really well to Moonalice, leaping out of their seats several times, particularly at the segue from Mr. Spaceman to On The Road Again. Very positive responses to the agricultural references in the Legends- although articles in the local paper say Fresno is getting ready to crack down on hemp dispensaries.
