Yesterday I got an email from Richard Shindell, the man who wrote "Arrowhead." Someone had turned Richard on to our version, which he found on YouTube. He was incredibly pleased that we are performing one of his songs . . . and really likes how we do it. That said, he was surprised by the final verse -- written by Hardwood -- where the kid gets hung for desertion. As much as he feels sorry for the kid, I think he's okay with our desire for historical accuracy. :)

I found Richard Shindell's version on iTunes last week and downloaded it. It was then that I realized Moonalice did an extra verse. I LOVE how the band does this song. How cool that you heard from the songwriter and that he likes your version! Now maybe you'll hear from whoever penned "$1000 Car"!

Whatever else you do, never say never.

Wow, thanks, pizzajohn! I love Lucy and Dar and had no idea this group existed. They're right up my alley. Thanks a lot! I am so glad Richard Shindell wrote Arrowhead. It's a stunning song. I had been ready to believe it was another good old folk song written long ago.

Thanks for the info on this song, like Barbette I also assumed it was an old folk song - nice to know where that killer tune came from

Last year I took a songwriting class with the guy from Eddie From Ohio and he is also a big Shindell fan.

    PS: The class sucked.

I love Lucy and Dar and had no idea this group existed.

    Yup, Kaplansky is excellent.

She is also one of the many musical artists (and others) who have recently adopted.

I had the fortune to introduce myself to GE last year in DC. I asked about this song and he told about who it was written by and said he added the ending versus, saying. "I had to kill him". I loved the song from the first time I heard it, now it's even better.
